Public Comments
Community member, Jessica Marcum, raised concerns about a Two Rivers Correctional Institution work crew being present near and inside the high school theater during a Hermiston Parks and Rec children's play rehearsal on August 4th. She asked the board to investigate how the incident occurred, whether proper safeguards and notifications were followed, and what steps will be taken to prevent a recurrence.

Hermiston Association of Teachers Report
Alayna Andrade, HAT president, shared updates on the start of the new school year, including the annual union representative training and a new-hire welcome lunch held for incoming educators.

Board Reports
During the recent board meeting, board members talked about their work in the school district over the past month, including attending the new staff welcome event and the summer youth theater program at the high school.

Policy First Read
The board reviewed a group of proposed policy updates from OSBA, including changes related to board officer duties, executive session recordkeeping, vote recording requirements, board committee definitions, and board vacancies. Board members raised questions about several provisions and requested clarification from OSBA before the policies return for a second reading in September.

Strategic Plan Review
Board members received detailed data reports supporting the district's strategic plan findings and discussed scheduling a board retreat, tentatively planned for later in August, to review the information and set district goals.
