Title IX Equal Opportunity in Education Act

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in all education programs or activities that receive federal financial assistance. Since the issuance of Title IX regulations in 1975, school districts, colleges, and universities receiving federal financial assistance from the Department of Education have been required to designate at least one employee to coordinate the recipient’s compliance with Title IX. The Hermiston School District Title IX coordinator is Stacie Roberts.

One of the administrative requirements of the Title IX coordinator is to oversee grievance procedures, providing for the prompt and equitable resolution of student and employee complaints under Title IX. The procedures provide HSD the mechanism for discovering incidents of discrimination or harassment as early as possible and for effectively correcting individual and systemic problems.
