Board accepts Superintendent Maiocco’s resignation

This evening the Board accepted the resignation of Dr. Fred Maiocco as Superintendent.

After being notified that Dr. Maiocco’s military service had been extended to January 2020, both the Board and Dr. Maiocco believe a separation agreement is in the best interest of the District. Recognizing the District’s contractual obligations as well as our responsibility under the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act, the Board was required to negotiate the financial terms of this separation agreement. We are very proud of Dr. Maiocco’s service to our country and we are grateful for his ten years of strong leadership and vision for the District. Dr. Maiocco has provided the foundation to continue our work toward the goal of becoming a premier school district as we continue with Vision 2025.

The Board now begins considering its options moving forward. We currently have an Interim Superintendent, Tricia Mooney, who is under contract in that role through June 30, 2019.  Moving forward the board will need to consider how to fill the Superintendent position on a permanent basis.  Our options are to appoint our Interim Superintendent as the new permanent Superintendent or to begin a superintendent search process. The Board will begin deliberations regarding these options at its September 10, regular business meeting.

Upon approval of the separation agreement, in a letter to staff, the seven-member board of directors requested input from district personnel and public as it moves forward.
