New educational space provides interactive learning experiences, grounded in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) for third grade students through community college
Hermiston School District in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) held its ribbon cutting event on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, to celebrate the grand opening of the AWS Think Big Space in Hermiston. The new space will provide a dedicated space for students and educators to explore innovative and imaginative ideas through interactive hands-on technical education and cloud computing training. This is the third AWS Think Big Space in Eastern Oregon.
The AWS Think Big Space in Hermiston, located across from Blue Mountain Community College, will serve as an “educational lab,” for students from third grade through community college and will feature cloud computing and various AWS technologies. This program aims to develop a spirit of innovation among children and young adults and to cultivate their interest in STEAM fields – science, technology, engineering, arts, and math.
Dr. Tricia Mooney, Superintendent of Schools in Hermiston, said about the new space, “We’re thrilled this new space will give our students the opportunity to learn to look at problems in innovative and imaginative ways. These skills will help prepare them for the future workforce – regardless if that future is in four years or ten years.”
The goals for the AWS Think Big Space in Hermiston include cultivating critical, creative, and collaborative thinking, as well as immersing students in STEAM to problem solve and innovate. Specific areas of focus for this space will include increasing technology literacy in coding, robotics, machine learning, and Internet of Things (IoT).

El nuevo espacio educativo ofrece experiencias de aprendizaje interactivas, basadas en ciencias naturales, tecnología, ingeniería, artes y matemáticas (siglas en inglés STEAM) para estudiantes de tercer grado hasta estudiantes del colegio comunitario
El Distrito Escolar de Hermiston en colaboración con Amazon Web Services (siglas en inglés AWS) celebró su evento de apertura el miércoles, 26 de octubre del 2022, para celebrar la gran inauguración del AWS Think Big Space en Hermiston. El nuevo espacio proveerá un espacio dedicado para que los estudiantes y educadores exploren ideas innovadoras e imaginativas por medio de la educación interactiva y técnica y entrenamiento en la computación en la nube. Este es el tercer AWS Think Big Space en el este de Oregon.
El AWS Think Big Space en Hermiston, ubicado en frente de Blue Mountain Community College, servirá como un “laboratorio educativo: para estudiantes desde tercer grado hasta el colegio y contará con computación en la nube y varias tecnologías de AWS. Este programa tiene como objetivo desarrollar un espíritu de innovación entre niños y adultos jóvenes, y cultivar su interés en los campos STEAM: ciencias naturales, tecnología, ingeniería, artes y matemáticas.
Dr. Tricia Mooney, Superintendente de las Escuelas en Hermiston, dijo esto sobre el nuevo espacio, “Estamos encantados que este nuevo espacio les dará a nuestros estudiantes la oportunidad de aprender a ver los problemas de manera innovadora e imaginativa. Estas habilidades ayudarán a prepararlos para la futura fuerza laboral, independientemente de si ese futuro es en cuatro años o diez años.”
Las metas de AWS Think Big Space en Hermiston incluyen cultivar el pensamiento crítico, creativo y colaborativo, así como sumergir a los estudiantes en STEAM para resolver problemas e innovar.
